The sumup till system is an all in one till/payment solution (but with an option to use your own machine). Giving you a sleek design, easy to customise system. Similar to Shopify in its solution however it does have better fees and a range of card machine offerings. Let’s have a look into the features of sum up pos.
Sum up offers you a flexible solution where you choose your POS software, purchase a card reader (or use your own) and simply choose which hardware you would like. If you have an ipad to hand then you can simply get started straight away (make your life easy, just go cashless!)..
The Plans
Choose from our range of flexible pricing options that cater to your specific needs.
POS Lite
A simple system. Fine if you just want basic products but lacks any features for integrations and reports.
Between the two plans they both offer you options for various businesses. If your looking for a system so you can integrate and properly manage your products then the Sum up POS pro is the way forward. Support is offered free of charge (unlike systems like epos now) and they are UK based.
Payment Devices
Sum up offers different devices which are purchased separately. Once you purchase you own it for life so no monthly terminal charges. If you are looking at getting some better rates you can still integrate your POS with DOJO/Paymentsense or get in touch with sump to discuss custom rates (if you take over 60k a year). Depending on your turnover you’ll be able to get rates starting from 0.3%. If you’re not fussed on integrated (linked) payments then you can simply use any card reader and manually put in the amount.
Simplistic
Sum Up Air – £30
Simplistic and easy to use. Simply link to your POS on i pad or phone via bluetooth and you’re ready to take payments.
A great gadget!
Solo – £82.80 Currently. Or £142.80 with built in receipt printer
The solo offers you a handheld touch screen device that can be used by itself or linked to your POS. Connectivity via wifi or its built in sim card. Tipping options are available directly on the machine which is great for the hospitality sector. If you’re looking to print receipts you can also get the solo with a built in receipt printer..
Our Experience
We look into the ins of outs of sum up
How does the front of house till perform? (POS PRO)
The design of the sumup till system is nice and simple with an easy to use workflow. Products can be arranged to suit your store / cafe / restaurant with the added benefit of being able to add pop up products. For example if you clock on a latte a pop up will come up to ask what type of milk or does the customer want to add on a cake for £2. One feature which is very handy is on the till you will be able to see a live stock feed when the item is added for checkout, this allows you to see stock levels without having to go on the back office (very handy!)
What do we think of the back office functions? (POS PRO)
The back office offers a huge range of features to suit any restaurant or retail business. Manage your stock and set up variables and pop ups (such as upsells and product options). Manage your customers and gain insights – you can set up customer specific promotions and run royalty programs. Reporting wise you can see all your daily sales including identifying bestsellers and understanding your margins. Sum up POS pro will also integrate with your accounting software such as Xero or quick books. On top of the functions sum up offers a huge range of integrations so you can partner with your favourite brands.
Why the Sumup till system over other EPOS systems? With Sum up POS pro there are many benefits that make this system stand out especially for the resturant/cafe sector. With the range of features such as table plan and kitchen screens, unlike other providers these are all included as standard with no hidden fees. The layout is simplistic and easy to use which is always useful in a high paced environment. Check out a free demo of till here. It’s a big benefit to not be locked into a specific machine. You can sometimes get better rates with dojo/paymentsense and still integrate payments.
What are the cons of sum up POS? IOS Specific, you need to run the software on an Ipad. Some EPOS systems offer a front of house which is a bit more modern looking.
Our final verdict? Overall we are really impressed with the sum up system. It’s easy to use and packed with features. We find it is more tailored to the food industry but based on its features it will be great for any retail environment.
